Disney Vacation Basics-Which Resort Is Best For My Family

Welcome to those of you joining me from I Am A Mommy Nerd and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail.

This week we are going to explore the different Disney World Resorts and which might be best for your family. Disney offers many different price ranges for guests traveling on a limited budget.

The Value Resorts start at just $100 per night and best of all they are adorably themed: All Star Sports, All Star Music, Pop and Art of Animation. If you have more than 4 people in your family and you are on a tight budget be sure to check out the family suites that are available at the All Star Music Resort and Art of Animation Resort. My personal favorite is the Finding Nemo family suites at the Art of Animation Resort.

Next we have the Moderate resorts which includes the following: Port Orleans Resort French Quarter, Port Orleans Resort Riverside, Coronado Springs, Caribbean Beach Resort and the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. These resorts are very affordable starting at just $220 per night. My personal favorite of the moderate resorts is the Caribbean Beach Resort. I love how it is themed like a fun beach resort and they have a really fun pool.

If you have a bigger budget then check out the Deluxe resorts which include the following: Animal Kingdom Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Yacht Club and Contemporary Resort. These resorts are all amazing resorts which offer many amenities for guests, awesome restaurants and resort style pools. Prices start at $400 per night. Some guests rooms even have fireworks views! I hope to stay at the Beach Club one day. Many argue that it offers the best pool of the Disney Resorts-Stormalong Bay. I love the monorail resorts-Grand Floridian, Polynesian and Contemporary Resorts because they offer the easy access to the Magic Kingdom and they also offer some of my favorite restaurants such as O'hana1900 Park Fare and the Polynesian Laua.

The popular Volcano pool at the Polynesian Resort offers a waterslide, waterfall and beach entry

The rooms were recently updated at the Polynesian Resort

It is so nice that Disney offers so many amazing resorts for guests with all types of vacation budgets!

  1. Because we are a family of 5, we normally stay Moderate (at Port Orleans Riverside). The kids and I stayed at All-Star Music once and were NOT impressed (I think we're spoiled). On our upcoming girls' trip, we're staying Deluxe for the first time and can't wait to experience it! What's your all-time favorite resort?

    1. We usually stay at Riverside too and call it our "other home." We stayed in a family suite at All Star once, and really did like it. I especially liked how Richard & I had a separate bedroom with a door! Still spoiled by POR, though :) It's just so peaceful and quiet and serene and beautiful.

  2. I just love the moderate resorts. But I think my favorite deluxe resort is Boardwalk because of the location! What are your thoughts on the new family suites?

  3. My son gets a substantial Cast Member discount now, so we're trying to decide which deluxe to splurge on! Should we do the Poly or AKLodge?

    1. I would suggest that it depends on when you are going. We LOVE AKL and find ourselves going back there a lot - absolutely a favorite! The Poly is one we dream about going to but - discount or not - we won't spend the money there until the construction is done. Apparently it's one big worksite right now! :)

  4. I love the family suites Rosanne! As a family of 5 we appreciate the extra space. Jodi I absolutely love the Polynesian and I think you will too. The pool area is wonderful and the tropical setting is nice.

  6. As DVC members, we've been spoiled by staying at Deluxe resorts over the years. We recently had to add a one night stay at Pop, and walked over to Art of Animation to look around. We were reminded of how much fun the value resorts are.

  7. We are love staying at values and deluxe resorts. For some reason we never seem to stay at the moderates! I did love Coronado Springs though when we stayed there last year. It's a beautiful resort.

    1. I am with you. Since we are DVC we typically stay at Deluxes (Animal Kingdom is our favorite) or for short trips we will hit a value (All Star Sports is our favorite value).

Next trip we will actually get the chance to stay a night at Coronado Spring and I can't wait to see what that moderate is like.

  8. I find it rare that the values are actually only 100 any more! Staying is so expensive sometimes.. Of course, I still do it! I also love having better restaurants when we stay at Deluxe, but really enjoy the value food courts
